Ideal Worship Leader Qualities

For my Foundations of Worship Arts class, my professor is challenging us to create a blog post about how we would write a job description for a Church Worship Leader. So just to clarify, this is not an official job listing for a Worship Leader.

A candidate I'd be interested in hiring to be a Worship Leader would primarily have to have a convicted calling and love to worship and live their lives according to Christ's example in the Bible. They would have to be willing to be a part of the church on and off stage; being inentional with relationships and discipling those in the church. They would have to be a good, respectable, compassionate leader who have a firm understanding of the Bible. They should have an understanding of how worship is described in the Bible. That it is a command and something God delights in and is the way we respond to God moving.

Practically speaking, the candidate should have background in music and have a good understanding on how to play in and lead a band well. God asks for and is worthy of our best, so the candidate should be able and willing to give their best musically as a sacrifice of praise. During the service, they would be expected to have prepared breaks and connections between songs such as: encouragements for the congregation to sing in worship, prayers, scriptures, and mini devotional thoughts. While they are expected to have a structure for the service and should able to execute it smoothly, they should be sensitive and obedient to how the Spirit is moving among the congregation. The ideal Worship Leader should be well rounded in both music execution but more importantly in cultivating an atmosphere of praise that is engaging and glorifying to God.
